Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a combination of two Japanese words rei and ki meaning "universal life energy". Also Known As: Chinese refer to the life force as chi or qi. Hindus call it prana. Greeks know it as pneuma. Japanese refer to it as ki.

Out of energy everything is created, from your body to the mountains and deserts. Universal Life Energy is the life force or living energy that sustains the life of everything, including organs, cells, tissue, and blood. As a spiritual entity the life force is considered our connective flow to the source.

The Usui System of Reiki Healing is a palms-on healing practice. Reiki is an ancient laying-on-of-palms healing technique that uses the life force energy to heal, balancing the subtle energies within our bodies.  The result of receiving Reiki is a balanced physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual being.

What to expect in a Reiki Session

A typical Reiki session will start off with a brief conversation to let you, the client, know what to expect and to answer any questions you may have. Then we'll talk about why you need the Reiki session, what is going on in your life, and what you are hoping to get out of the session(s). You will fill in a form with some basic information and acknowledge that you understand what can be expected from a typical session.

You then relax, on a massage table or seated, while I hold my palms on or above you. A session typically lasts an hour unless otherwise requested or my intuition guides me for a longer period of time. I, as many other practitioners in the western world use standard hand positions and commonly a full treatment is given covering all the important organs of the body. There is little or no pressure on the body making it ideal for treating all ages and conditions, sometimes hands are even held away from the body.

What will you expereince during a Reiki session?

This is almost as difficult as answering how you will experience anything. Each of us is built differently in all aspects, be they mental, physical, emotional or spiritual. There is no definite experience anyone will have.

The more common experiences are feeling a tingling, hot or cold sensation somewhere in their body. Some people feel as though they are floating during the session. Some people fall asleep. Some feel that there are more than 2 sets of hands working on them. Some may have some emotional things come up. There is no right and wrong. All that I can suggest is that you allow the experience to be, instead of trying to control it.

The most common feelings afterwards are a drastic reduction in stress, and an extreme sense of relaxation, similar to what people usually feel after a massage but it seems to be more profound and longer lasting, and an overall feeling of being more balanced, calm, and centered.

Remember that all healing starts a process of release, this could be through emotions or even toxins in your body that you need to get rid of. You might initially even feel worse than before but this soon passes. You can help your body by drinking lots of water.
